About Stephen Barker
I have 29 years experience as a professional photographer, graduating from Wellington Polytechnic School of Design in 1984 (now called Massey University). I have worked for newspapers in Whangarei (The Northern Advocate) and Hamilton (The Waikato Times) where I was Deputy Chief Photographer for 10 years. From 1992 to 1993 I freelanced in London for The Observer newspaper and Rex Features.
COMMERCIAL clients (see my Clients page for a list), include advertising agencies like KingSt, where I often work on publications for their client The University of Auckland. I have worked for Verdict and Bettle also.
EDITORIAL clients include sports and news photo agencies Photosport and Getty Images, plus national Sunday newspapers and magazine titles such as NZ Farmers Weekly, Little Treasures and Woman's Weekly.other major client is The University of Waikato. My work for Pioneer sees me travelling around the North Island shooting amazing maize for their various silage and grain publications. I work for local businesses as well, having recently completed business portraits for Tompkins Wake Lawyers. I have also done work for St Peter's School, Cambridge.
EVENT clients include Mystery Creek Events Centre, National Agricultural Fieldays, Westpac Waikato Business Excellence Awards, The Great Race and Rev Cycle Festival, plus NZ andAustralian marathon events for Marathon-Photos.com.
I also cover reunions, school sports events and school Balls.
Though I mainly work on location, I have a home based studio suitable for small groups and product photography, using BOWENS and HENSEL monolight flash systems. I have the ability to meet tight deadlines when needed and use high end digital gear:
- CANON EOS 1Dx (18.1 Mega Pixel)
- "L" series lenses from 16mm wide to 400mm telephoto
