About Stephen Barker

I have 30 years experience as a professional photographer, graduating from Wellington Polytechnic School of Design in 1984 (now Massey University). I have worked for newspapers in Whangarei (The Northern Advocate) and Hamilton (The Waikato Times) where I was Deputy Chief Photographer for 10 years. From 1992 to 1993 I freelanced in London for The Observer newspaper and Rex Features.

COMMERCIAL clients (see my Clients page for a list), include Mystery Creek Events Centre, PIONEER seeds and products, and the Universities of Waikato and Auckland.

EVENT clients include Westpac Waikato Business Excellence Awards, The Great Race and Rev Cycle Festival, plus NZ andAustralian marathon events for Marathon-Photos.com

EDITORIAL clients include Photosport, SNPA and Herald On Sunday

I also cover reunions, school sports events and school Balls.

Though I mainly work on location, I have a home based studio suitable for small groups and  product photography, using BOWENS and HENSEL monolight flash systems. I have the ability to meet tight deadlines when needed and use high end digital gear:

  • CANON EOS 1Dx  (18.1 Mega Pixel)
  • "L" series lenses from 16mm wide to 400mm telephoto
